Ztree
Ztree
is a recent stand-alone program for Win95/98/NT that offers an
integrated development environment for experiments. An important
advantage of Ztree is the ability to develop experiments within days,
sometimes within hours. There are, however, also disadvantages. Given
its proprietary technology you are restricted to Win95/98/NT
computers, and, in case you plan to access a general-purpose computer
pool, you further depend on the mercy of the local sysadmin who has to
grant you the right to install the new software. Walking into a
foreign lab and requiring nothing but Netscape for your experiments is
often less problem-prone. Further it is so far not possible to use
graphics within Ztree. There are rumours that Ztree may become more
modular in the future which may even allow integration of a graphical
user interface.
To summarise: If you have an experiment that can do without a
graphical user interface and you own a lab with Win95/98/NT computers,
Ztree is highly recommended.
